Private Residence #1

The goal of this client was to expand the usable area around this residence to provide space for their small children to play. Mr. Burke designed the exterior spaces on either side of the "Florida Room" to include a new pool and entertaining spaces. Working with the topography, the pool was set into a small hillside and incorporated a naturalized retaining section with water falling into the pool. The terraces on the other side provide space for cocktail parties and dining. Extended color is provided around the terraces via the Yoshino Cherry (spring), Kousa Dogwood (early summer), and Sophora (late summer) trees.

The clients were in this country for only two months of the year and wanted a number of exterior spaces including a new pool added to this residence. Mr. Burke designed a very simple shaped pool to compliment the building and not to compete with the view. Tennessee Crab Orchard stone was used for the deck for its richness of color. The location for the pool was chosen for its close proximity to the residence as they had small children. The existing pool which was some distance away, was deconstructed and a tennis court installed over it.

Mr. Burke and Ms. Killam-Burke have worked with this couple for over eight years on a variety of projects, starting with creating a level playing field for this very active family. Other projects have included a USGS spec putting green and hitting area, a new pool with a vanishing edge, renovating the 18' x 64' main terrace, and additional plantings around this five acre estate. The latest project involves the design of a new pool and renovations/replacements for plantings on their four acre estate north of Palm Beach in Florida.

Private Residence #4

Our clients purchased this New Canaan, CT residence in order to move back into a community that they had lived in many years before. The program for upgrading the property included a new entrance terrace to create an informal arrival experience, a pool & spa, terraces, and plantings. With the Merritt Parkway nearby, noise mitigation for the outdoor spaces was also a strong desire. The pool, spa, and fountain are integrated with a small, family dining terrace and grill area to create a cohesive space that flows together.
